Countries in Asia are familiar with avian flu (H5N1). This flu was first reported in Hong Kong in 1997 (18 cases with 6 deaths). Then came again in 2003 with 2 cases with 1 death, before finally starting endemic to several countries in December 2004.
Case Fatality Rate
In Indonesia, cases of avian flu affecting poultry reported in January 2004. A year later, in July 2005 found the first case of human attack. Since then, have been found as many as 139 cases including 113 cases ended in death (data as of Des 2008). If dipersentase, the rate of death (case fatality rate, CFR) due to avian flu around 80%.
